Make Do & Mend
Because of Covid-19 there are new restrictions around the school to reduce the spread of the disease. For example: wearing masks in crowded areas; sanitising hands when entering and exiting rooms; and staying in our year group bubbles.
In the photography department there are also some restrictions. For example, the dark room can't be used and we can't take photographs outside of lessons. We are having to make do and mend. This may seems hard as we are limited to certain resources, however we are making the most out of what we have like turning half a table into out own studio space (which can give us a sense of independence) or using phones instead of cameras to take photos.

Image AnalysisThe focus of the picture is a face however the face is shown in squiggly lines apart from the nose. There is a chair with a blue coat laying on top of it. And a black outline of someone’s hands on top of the coat. this isn’t a usual portrait because the face and arms were photoshopped onto the picture. I think he took a picture of a chair and decided to put the coat on top of it knowing there will be hands photoshopped onto the coat. if i was to recreate this picture i would take the picture in a bright room.
This picture doesn’t make me feel anything. if it had more brighter colours then it would make me feel happy, if the picture was darker it would make me feel down and it wouldn’t make me want to explore more of the picture. i would ask the artist “why did you choose squiggly lines to draw on the face?” “are the hands supposed to have a black border around it?” and “why would you only show someone’s hands and face?” |

Make do and mend assessment
Evaluation:
In my collage i had chosen to have people as the focus of my project. Originally i was going to have multiple people in my collage. For the materials, i used a photography book filled with mainly pictures of artists. This was useful for me as it had a variety of photographs of people from different angles and sizes. I chose a photograph of two people, this interested me because they were taken from the same angles and perspectives. My original ideas about this project had changed as i thought i could be more creative with using two faces as a collage. To accomplish my ideas i cut out the people's facial features and switched them with each other. When i was done with the collage i decided to add onto my collage to make it less recognisable and more different as i first thought it was quite boring, I did this by changing the colours of it to red and green, this made it more abstract.
Overall i think the outcome of my personal project came out as unrecognisable and abstract by the change of colours and switching around different facial features. I was hoping to create something different and less abstract but i am pleased with the final outcome of it. If i had more time i would have used more colours to make my work more vibrant
